כשרק עלה רעיון ההטבעה של ה- sunboat ראיתי שזו תהיה ה-"מכה"
(או הכותל) של הצוללים החופשיים באילת. לא כולם יכולים לצלול בסטיל שהוא יחסית עמוק, אבל אתר רדוד כזה (קרקעית 15 מ') בחוף הצפוני השקט כמעט כל השנה האתר אידיאלי. יחד עם זאת כניסה למדורים השונים (שפונו ממכשולים) ולמרות שסגרו מדורים מסוכנים מצריכים מיומנות וגם הצוללים היותר מקצועיים ימצאו את האתר אטרקטיבי.

הספינה נבנתה בהולנד בשנת 1959 כספינת דייג לים הצפוני. אחרי כמה שנים עברה הסבה לספינת מחקר של אגף הדייג ההולנדי. ב1972 נרכשה לים האדום לשמש כספינת צוללים. עברה מספר גילגולים (בעלים) עד שנחתה אצל שמשון משיח הסקיפר האילתי האלמותי ב1988. שמשה להפלגות מחקר לאוניברסיטה ובעיקר להפלגות צוללים לכיוון שארם ויותר דרומה.
50 שנה זו תקופת חיים מכובדת לספינה ועוד יותר מכובד בשבילה לשמש כשונית מלאכותית באיזור שנבחר לשמש ככזה ויש בו כמה גרוטאות יותר ישנות כמו מכבש ופסלים שונים. האתר נמצא מול מלון הרוד כ-200 מ' מהחוף ואני לא בטוח מאיפה הגישה הטובה ביותר כי הגעתי לשם עם ספינה.
